Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake

Today’s recipe is a very old favorite from The Southern Living Cookbook! I have been making it for many, many years. I hadn’t made it in a while and for the last 2 weeks I have made it three times! It is a favorite! Enjoy!

Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake

2 cups flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 1/2 cups sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 eggs

3/4 cup milk

1 tsp almond extract

1 cup chocolate chips (I use the mini chips)

Combine the first 4 ingredients beat until resembles fine crumbs. Set aside 1 cup crumb. mixture.

Add eggs, milk and almond to remaining crumb mixture and mix until blended.

Pour into a greased 11x7x1 1/2 inch pan (I have used a 13×9, it just isn’t as thick) sprinkle with chocolate chips and top with the reserved crumbs. I usually add a few of the chips to the batter.

Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes. Delicious!
