Garden 2016

Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul. Luther Burbank
I can finally say my 2016 garden is up and ready to go! The rain has stopped and started this project so many times! Last year I had a 4×6 raised bed garden and this year I added another 4×6 raised bed garden. I am happy to have 3 zucchini plants, 3 yellow squash and one butternut squash in the first garden. I can’t wait for these plants to produce and am curious as to how the butternut will do.
I designed the second garden in my head but of course the plans changed as we went along. First my husband rented a tiller this year, last year we dug the garden by hand. With the Maryland dirt (more like clay) we have, we aren’t sure if this was more or less work! We had a beautiful start to the day, tilled and created the garden, added good soil then ran out of soil. My husband ran to get more soil and on his way back the beautiful sky turned gray and black! He got home, we added the soil, then began to add the deer fencing. Well let me tell you, God was with us. It started to rain a little and literally the second we finished the fencing, the skies opened up! It poured at that point! Done for that day! About a week later I went to plant.
My second garden has spring onions, radishes from seed which have already started to come up, oregano, lemon balm, sugar snap peas, carrots from seed which are starting to peek out and one cucumber plant. One of my favorites, dill will be planted as soon as I can find some! I might need to try seed if I don’t find any this weekend!
My husband planted a blueberry bush in my yard. I am excited to see how that will do! We also have a strawberry plant in a pot which I placed in the middle of both gardens. We have chile and jalapeno peppers in 2 pots as well.
I have dreams of a wildflower garden but that will have to wait a year. This weather has made gardening a little bit of a challenge this year!
I am blessed to have a little helper in my garden! He loves to join me inside the gate! See his picture below, he was chillin while the second garden was in progress!
Share what is going in your garden this year…….
ENJOY your Memorial Day weekend and I will see you back here next Tuesday!
